Athletes. Alix von Melle and Luis Stizinger have been among the most active german expedition mountaineering couples for years. They already toured on
nine +8000m mountains and on six of them they reached the peak successfully. The list of +6000m and +7000m in their touring books is many times longer.
Alix is the most successful female high altitude mountaineer in Germany. Louis, as a professional mountaineer and expedition guide, has skied multiple +8000m peaks and therefore counts as one of the most successful “Big Mountain Skiers” in the scene. Every year they take multiple tours out to the mountains of this world.
2017 they will make another attempt on Mt. Manaslu, after an inferno of a thunderstorm forced them to turn around just 150m below the peak in 2012.
They have been active in Nepal not only since the great earthquake in the past year but have been supporting many NGO’s for a number of years there. This year, we were fortunate enough to gain their support on one of our kenial projects.
Mt. Manaslu (8163m) is the eight-highest peak on earth. The name means “Mountain of the Soul” or “Soul of the Himalayas”. The Gurkha Himal together with the Manaslu (8163m), the Himalchuli (z893m) and the Ngada Chuli (7835m) form their own mountain ridge. Its borders are marked by the ravines of the Buri Gandaki and Marsyangdi, which lead to the north side of the Himalayas. Mountain Forests stretch far beyond 3000m heights.
